From NVAHU/CCAHU/NNAHU Legislative Committee:

Four weeks down, 13 to go! We round out the first month of the 80th Legislative Session with less than half of the legislation that's been requested actually drafted. Legislative committees in both houses conducted a mixture of presentations and bill hearings during Week Four. As we approach the looming deadline for bill language to be introduced, it is anticipated that sizable bill drops will take place in the coming days.

Both parties have released their priorities for the session via the Democrat's Nevada Blueprint and the Assembly GOP's Battle Born Priorities. Both parties have health care as a priority for the 2019 session.

LEGISLATIVE PROCESS

The state legislature is bound to a strict schedule for completing their work by the Nevada constitution. Each biennial session lasts exactly 120 days, leaving little room for error. Between the first and 120th days, there are a number of deadlines that each piece of legislation must meet to continue through the legislative process. This week, legislative committee and state agency BDRs were due. The next major deadline is several weeks away on March 18th, when legislator bills must be formally introduced on the floor.
